Born to the world.
An Chil-Hyun was born on October 10th, 1979 in Kyungbuk, South Korea. There's a contradiction in choosing names for the baby Kangta. His Grandpa wants to name him "An Chil Hyun" (Chil Hyun is a lucky name, just like number seven is lucky to us) while His dad wants to name him "Hee sung" to match his siblings' name (boy's name in his family begins with "hee"). So he was called with two names when he was a little kid. But eventually "Hee Sung" disappears and "Chil Hyun" lasts. Kangta thinks the name "An Chil Hyun" is kinda funny (nerdy/dorky), that's why he uses "Kangta" (meaning "Strong Hit" in Korean) when he joined HOT.
With his family.
Kangta's family are made up of two boys and one girl. His dad (An Geung Shik) and mom (Yang Young Hee), had been working on their own little clothes store. His three-years-older bro, Hee Joong, is always protective towards Kangta. When he got into a fight or someone hit him, his brother was always there for him. His noona is a fashion designer and always helped him picking out clothes for him whenever he had an interview.

   Beginning of career.
Kangta was the first member of H.O.T. He was found by an SM entertainment personel while he and a group of his friends performs a break dance at Lotte World (A disneyland-kinda-like theme park at Seoul), just for fun. The SM personel gave him his business card and asked whether he wants to be a singer. He went home and discussed about it with his parents. He then decided to contact the SM entertainment. Kangta was still an 8th grader at that time. Before SM decided to form H.O.T., Kangta likes to hangout at SM's office and watched other singers recording their album. Kangta loves music so much. He got a bad grade during his 10th grade year because he was too focused to music. His dad, who originally opposes the idea of him becoming a gasso (korean singer), told him that if he already chooses music over education, he should do his best in music and not worry about anything else. Kangta, along with Hee Jun, starts their carreer as a back dancer for Yoo young Jin.
About Kang Ta.
Kangta is a known as a very emotional, sociable and cheerful person. Kangta attends Dongkuk University, majoring in Drama&Cinema. Being cheerful and amiable, he gets along well with his classmates. His (and Tony's) enrollment to this university were believed to bring a quite strong enhancement of enrollments to this university.
Kangta loves puppies. Once he had a puppy that died a couple week before his final exam. His mom saw how sad he was and bought him a new puppy, and now he's all "hengbok" again ^_^. To quote him @ one of soompi.net's article: "I've always loved puppies. When I found out that MY puppy had died, I felt so awful. For a while I was empty and numb inside. I think my mom noticed this because when she came home one afternoon she said she had a present ready for me. The present turned out to be an adorable puppy. She's so cute and obedient, I love her to death. Even when I go to sleep I want to hold my puppy". Now, Isn't that just cute?
His mom once bought him a Sony 43" TV, but Kangta said he shouldn't use a foreign product (Sony=Japan). He even put a black tape over the label "Sony" when filming "star Docu" ^_^. He cares about Korean economy.. how cute...
His mom also said that he never complains when he feels sick. He's not picky about food. He thinks sleep is wasting time so he doesn't sleep that much.
